The Portland Thorns have announced that forward Morgan Weaver has been cleared to return from the season-ending injury list and will be available for selection on Friday, July 24, when they face Gotham FC. Weaver had been placed on the injury list during the pre-season of 2025, with her last competitive appearance dating back to November 2024.
Weaver has faced significant setbacks since 2024, primarily due to a right knee injury. Following successful arthroscopic surgery in May 2024, she made a return to action that September. Unfortunately, just before the 2025 season began, she suffered a reinjury to the same knee. After this setback, Weaver shared her frustrations on social media, explaining that her knee had not fully healed from the initial injury, prompting her to “restart the process of rehabbing my meniscus.”
The 28-year-old has been a vital player for the Thorns throughout her career. With 25 goals and 11 assists in 105 appearances across all NWSL competitions, she has made a significant impact. Weaver’s contributions have been instrumental in helping the Thorns secure the 2022 NWSL Championship and the 2021 NWSL Shield, among other achievements.
As the Thorns prepare to welcome Gotham FC, Weaver’s return is a crucial boost to the team’s attacking prowess. The Thorns have faced stiff competition this season, and with Weaver back in form, they hope to solidify their standing in the league. Her skill set and experience could prove decisive in upcoming matches, particularly against teams looking to clinch playoff positions.
Weaver’s journey has been marked by resilience, and her determination to overcome these injuries highlights her dedication to the sport. As she reenters the squad, fans and teammates alike are eager to see the impact she will have on the pitch. The Thorns will be counting on her to bring the creativity and energy she is known for in their push for success this season.
With summer transfers expected to heat up across the league, Weaver’s availability could also influence the Thorns’ strategic decisions. The team may consider bolstering their roster further to maximize their chances for the playoffs as they aim for their second consecutive championship title. Weaver’s performance in the upcoming fixtures will undoubtedly play a vital role in shaping the team’s trajectory.
