Chelsea aims to reverse their disappointing cup final fortunes against Manchester City in the FA Cup this Saturday.
The Blues have struggled at Wembley recently, managing just one win in their last nine domestic cup finals, a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the 2017/18 FA Cup.
This season has been largely disappointing for the west London club, despite their status as current holders of both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
As they prepare for the trip to Wembley, Chelsea appears to be actively pursuing a talented Spanish winger.
According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, reported via CaughtOffside, both Chelsea and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Real Sociedad’s Ander Barrenetxea.
Both Premier League giants are monitoring the 24-year-old, who has netted four goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances this season.
Sources suggest that Chelsea is aiming to upgrade their current wingers, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens, both of whom have had a competitive yet challenging debut season at Stamford Bridge.
Barrenetxea, a product of Sociedad’s youth academy, has amassed over 230 appearances for the club, including 180 in La Liga.
This year, he earned his first senior international cap for Spain during a goalless draw against Egypt in March.
While Real Sociedad is reluctant to part ways with the promising player, reports indicate that a bid in the vicinity of £65-70 million could be too enticing for the club to reject.
