While the World Cup unfolds in North America, Premier League clubs in England are actively engaging in the transfer market.
As the transfer window officially opened on Monday, all 20 Premier League teams are expected to be busy in the coming weeks, eyeing potential signings to bolster their squads.
In a notable development, Liverpool’s significant bid for an emerging talent has been turned down. Reports from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg indicate that the Reds had their initial offer of approximately £86 million for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande rejected.
The 19-year-old Diomande joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganes last summer, where he had previously showcased his talent. Since arriving in the Bundesliga, the Ivory Coast international has experienced a remarkable ascent, netting 13 goals and providing 10 assists in 36 games across all competitions during his debut season with the club.
His stellar performances led to his inclusion in the senior squad for the Ivory Coast, making his international debut in October of last year. Diomande has since been part of the national team roster for the ongoing World Cup, contributing to their 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their opening match. He is expected to feature prominently against Germany on Saturday.
Plettenberg reports that Liverpool’s opening offer comprised £78 million up front, along with an additional £8.6 million in performance-related add-ons. However, RB Leipzig has made it clear that they are aware of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and are unwilling to part with Diomande unless a substantial bid is presented.
Additionally, the German club is reportedly looking to negotiate a new contract for the promising winger, which may potentially include a release clause, demonstrating their commitment to retaining one of their brightest talents.
