Manchester United poised for transfer activity following Carrick’s permanent appointment
After Michael Carrick was confirmed as the new head coach of Manchester United, the club is expected to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer. Carrick took the reins as caretaker manager in January, stepping in after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Under his leadership, the Red Devils managed to secure a third-place finish in the Premier League, marking a strong turnaround after a challenging start to the season.
Despite a turbulent first half of the campaign, where results were far from favorable, United has successfully qualified for the upcoming Champions League, providing a glimmer of hope for a more prosperous future. As Carrick looks to refine his squad ahead of the new season, attention has turned to the future of one of United’s more overlooked players.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to return from his loan spell in Turkey and rejoin Carrick’s squad for pre-season training. The Cameroonian international had been sent on loan to Trabzonspor in September after struggling with form and losing his starting position at Old Trafford.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 but faced difficulties in rediscovering his best level in the Premier League. During his time at Old Trafford, he conceded 150 goals in 102 appearances and kept just 24 clean sheets. His departure to Turkey was prompted by the arrival of Senne Lammens, who has established himself as a key figure in the squad.
Since joining Trabzonspor, Onana has made 33 appearances, conceding 40 goals while managing to achieve six clean sheets. Romano also reports that the Turkish side is interested in retaining the 30-year-old and is keen to negotiate another loan deal for the 2026/27 season.
However, it appears Onana’s immediate future lies back in Manchester, where he will resume training with Carrick’s team. He is expected to face competition from Lammens and fellow goalkeeper Altay Bayindir as they vie for a starting position in the upcoming season’s lineup.
