Chelsea’s Pre-Season Journey Kicks Off in Australia and Asia

Chelsea Football Club embarks on their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia this week, gearing up for their first friendly match against Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28. Under the guidance of newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso, the Blues are eager to improve after finishing tenth in the Premier League last season, which leaves them out of European competitions for the upcoming campaign.

This summer, Chelsea has already bolstered their squad with the signings of Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP and Marco Palestra from Atalanta. Reports suggest that they are now on the verge of securing a deal for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, a player who could significantly enhance their attacking options.

As per insider Fabrizio Romano, discussions between Chelsea and Villa regarding Rogers included mentions of both Alejandro Garnacho and Nicolas Jackson. This indicates that the Blues are exploring various avenues to strengthen their lineup while potentially reshaping their squad.

Romano had previously revealed that Chelsea had reached an agreement for Rogers on a long-term contract, with the transfer fee reportedly set at £117 million. This substantial investment highlights the club’s ambition to return to the top of English football.

During negotiations, both Garnacho and Jackson were brought up as possible targets for Aston Villa, indicating that Chelsea may be open to player exchanges to facilitate the transfer. Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023, made an impressive impact, scoring 30 goals in 81 appearances before being loaned to Bayern Munich last summer when Jackson arrived.

On the other hand, Garnacho, who made the switch from Manchester United last summer, had a less than stellar debut season at Stamford Bridge, netting just eight goals in 43 matches. As Chelsea considers their options, both players could be made available for the right offer this summer.

While Aston Villa has expressed interest in Garnacho, it appears that the winger is prioritizing a move to Italian club Roma, although no formal agreement has been established between the two teams at this time. The ongoing transfer window remains pivotal for Chelsea as they aim to reshape their squad to return to competitive glory.
