Liverpool Seeks New Manager After Arne Slot’s Dismissal
The search is on for a new managerial figure at Liverpool following the sacking of Arne Slot. The Dutch coach was relieved of his duties on Saturday after a disappointing season, leaving the Reds in fifth place in the Premier League and without any silverware.
Slot initially led the Merseyside club to the Premier League title in his debut season, but a lackluster performance this campaign forced the club’s hierarchy to take decisive action.
Reports are now emerging that Liverpool is eyeing a former Premier League manager to replace Slot. According to noted journalist Fabrizio Romano, Andoni Iraola is being considered as the leading candidate for the managerial role.
The 43-year-old Spaniard is currently available after leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season. Romano suggests that he has emerged as the preferred choice to take the helm at Anfield.
Iraola took the reins at Bournemouth in 2023, steering the team to a solid 12th-place finish in his inaugural season. He then improved their standings, finishing ninth in the 2024/25 campaign. Under his leadership, Bournemouth notably qualified for the Europa League this season, although Iraola had already communicated his intention to leave when his contract ended.
Romano reports that Liverpool has made the decision to proceed with Iraola as their next manager, and negotiations regarding his contract are set to begin. The discussions are said to be expected straightforward, as the club hopes to finalize an agreement swiftly.
Since departing Bournemouth, Iraola has attracted interest from numerous prestigious clubs, including AC Milan, Crystal Palace, and Bayer Leverkusen, all of whom are seeking a new managerial direction.
