The Canadian women’s national team and Chicago Stars forward, Jordyn Huitema, has been placed on the National Women’s Soccer League’s Season-Ending Injury List, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
At just 25 years old, Huitema joined the Stars at the beginning of the 2026 NWSL season in a trade from the Seattle Reign. Unfortunately, she suffered an injury on July 18 during a match against Angel City FC, resulting in her substitution in the 28th minute.
The Chicago Stars announced that Huitema is scheduled to undergo surgery, although a specific date hasn’t been shared yet. Following the operation, she will begin her recovery process.
The club expressed their support in a press release, stating, “The Chicago Stars wish Jordyn a speedy recovery with full support from the club and look forward to her return to the pitch.”
In a heartfelt post on her personal social media account, Huitema described her torn ACL as “heartbreaking,” demonstrating the emotional toll the injury has taken on her.
Huitema’s career started in France when she signed with Paris Saint-Germain at 18. There, she made 10 starts in 45 appearances, netting six goals and providing five assists. During her time at PSG, she claimed the Division 1 Féminine title in 2021 and lifted the Coupe de France Féminine trophy in 2022.
She later joined the Seattle Reign in 2022, spending four seasons with the club. In Seattle, Huitema started 58 matches out of 70 and scored 13 goals, while also contributing five assists. She was instrumental in securing the NWSL Shield in 2022.
Before this NWSL season, Huitema transferred to the Chicago Stars, where she has made 12 appearances and scored four goals to date.
With 98 caps for the Canadian women’s national team, Huitema has found the back of the net 24 times. Her accolades include a gold medal from the Tokyo Olympic Games and two silver medals from the Concacaf W Championship in 2018 and 2022. Additionally, she represented Canada in the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.
