Manchester United Set to Clash with PSG in Pre-Season Friendly
This Saturday, Manchester United will take on Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming pre-season friendly. The Red Devils experienced a rough start, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Wrexham in their first friendly of the summer. However, they rebounded impressively with victories against Norwegian team Rosenborg and La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid.
Manager Michael Carrick will be keen to see his squad continue their positive momentum ahead of their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Hull City on August 22.
In transfer news, it appears that Manchester United may miss out on one of their desired signings this summer. According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United has firmly stated that left-back Lewis Hall is not for sale.
The report suggests that the Red Devils had pinpointed Hall, a former Chelsea player, as a key target to strengthen their left-back options. Nevertheless, Newcastle has no plans to part ways with the talented defender.
Hall, 21, initially joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea in 2023, transitioning to a permanent deal the following year. Despite only making 12 appearances for the Blues after rising through their academy, he has since established himself as a valuable asset, racking up over 100 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions.
Interestingly, Hall himself is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford, especially in light of recent turbulence at Newcastle following the departure of manager Eddie Howe last week. The team’s stability has further come into question with the sales of players like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, and captain Bruno Guimaraes is also linked with a potential transfer away from the club.
With Hall under contract at St. James’ Park until the end of the 2028/29 season, it remains uncertain whether Newcastle can retain him beyond the current transfer window. The coming days will be crucial as clubs seek to finalize their rosters before the season commences.
