Arsenal Secures Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United
Arsenal has finalized the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Premier League rivals Newcastle United. The club made the announcement early Saturday, confirming the long-speculated move to The Emirates.
While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, BBC Sport reports that Arsenal has invested £75 million to bring Guimaraes to North London.
Guimaraes, 28, originally joined Newcastle from French club Lyon in 2022. Over his tenure with the North East club, he made 195 appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 25 assists across all competitions.
Additionally, Guimaraes represented Brazil in the recent World Cup held in North America, featuring in four matches as Brazil was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Norway. His international experience further enhances Arsenal’s midfield options.
The midfielder’s arrival at Arsenal comes on the heels of Christian Norgaard’s transfer to Everton, marking the Gunners’ reshuffling of their squad just a year after his acquisition from Brentford.
With the new season approaching, Newcastle’s roster appears set for an overhaul, having already seen the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali since the conclusion of last season.
Guimaraes had been frequently linked with a move away from the Magpies, but the successful negotiation between the two clubs adds significant depth and versatility to Mikel Arteta’s squad as they aim to defend their Premier League title this season.
Expected to feature alongside Declan Rice in midfield, Guimaraes will face competition from players like Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi for a starting role, making for an exciting midfield dynamic for Arsenal in the upcoming campaign.
