Rose Lavelle is set to remain in New York City as she signs a contract extension with Gotham FC that will keep her with the club until the end of the 2029 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. This new deal extends her tenure by three years, following her status as a free agent after the 2026 season.

Lavelle expressed her enthusiasm for the extension, stating that joining Gotham FC has been a pivotal experience in her career. She emphasized how the club has pushed her to grow and provided opportunities to compete for titles alongside a talented roster. Lavelle expressed pride in their achievements thus far while looking forward to future endeavors.

At 31, Lavelle has already cemented her legacy with Gotham FC, contributing significantly to the team’s success. She played a crucial role in winning the 2025 NWSL Championship, notably scoring the decisive goal against the Washington Spirit, in addition to clinching the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup and the Concacaf W Champions Cup.

Yael Averbuch West, Gotham FC’s president of soccer operations, hailed Lavelle’s impact on the team. Averbuch highlighted her exceptional ability to influence games and her embodiment of the club’s ambitious standards, revealing her delight in Lavelle’s commitment to the franchise’s aspirations.

Lavelle’s performance statistics further illustrate her influence. Since joining Gotham, she has made 49 starts in 59 regular-season matches, scoring 16 goals and assisting five times. Before her tenure with Gotham, Lavelle played for notable clubs such as OL Reign, Manchester City, Washington Spirit, and Boston Breakers, accumulating 99 starts and 25 goals in 118 NWSL matches.

On the international stage, Lavelle is a vital member of the U.S. women’s national team. As a FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, she scored the pivotal goal in the 2019 final against the Netherlands and participated in the 2023 World Cup. Her accolades include two Concacaf Women’s Championship titles and medals from both the Olympic gold and bronze competitions, along with being a key figure in the USWNT squad that won the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup in 2024.

In total, Lavelle has represented the United States in 122 matches, finding the back of the net 29 times. Her accolades include being named U.S. Soccer Women’s Player of the Year in 2025, the same season she clinched the MVP title in the NWSL Championship, further solidifying her reputation as one of the game’s elite talents.
