Chelsea’s Premier League Journey Begins with a West London Derby
Chelsea is set to kick off their Premier League campaign on Monday evening with a highly anticipated match against local rivals Fulham in west London. Meanwhile, the new season officially launched on Friday night as reigning champions Arsenal delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Coventry City at The Emirates Stadium. On Saturday, five more matches are scheduled to unfold, adding to the excitement of the opening weekend.
Under the guidance of new manager Xabi Alonso, Chelsea aims to secure an inaugural win against the Cottagers, who are now helmed by Alvaro Arbeloa. Notably, Arbeloa succeeded Alonso at Real Madrid earlier this year, adding a layer of intrigue to this fixture.
In transfer news, reports have surfaced indicating that a Premier League club is vying for a Chelsea star’s services. According to Ben Jacobs, Leeds United is in discussions to acquire Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk on a loan deal for the rest of the season.
The Ukrainian international has not taken to the pitch in a competitive match for 20 months after receiving a ban for testing positive for meldonium. His suspension concluded last month, and he has since participated in pre-season friendlies under Alonso’s management.
As he aims to regain his peak form, a loan to Leeds appears to be a significant opportunity, though it is reported that negotiations are still in their early stages. Mudryk, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023, boasts a record of ten goals and 11 assists in 73 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
With his contract at Stamford Bridge extending until the summer of 2031, it seems likely that Mudryk will don the Chelsea jersey once again in the future, making his current situation one to watch closely in the coming weeks.
