Chicago Stars forward and Canadian international Jordyn Huitema left Saturday’s match against Angel City in the first half due to a concerning left leg injury.
Following a collision, Huitema initially sat on the pitch, signaling for medical assistance as she limped off the field. After being assessed, she re-entered the game but soon fell back to the ground after attempting a header, clutching her knee. A pair of staff members carried her off the pitch, as she was unable to bear weight on her left leg, with her official substitution recorded in the 28th minute.
During halftime, a medical cart arrived to escort Huitema from the field. She was seen with an ice pack on her knee and a towel draped over her head, a clear sign of the seriousness of her injury.
Post-match, Chicago Stars head coach Martin Sjögren expressed concern about Huitema’s condition: “Jordyn is one of the most dynamic attackers in the league, so her absence would be hard to handle. Right now, we await further medical evaluations to determine her situation.”
He added, “Watching her struggle is difficult for everyone involved. It leaves us with a heavy heart—not just because of the match result, but due to the possibility of losing Jordyn to injury.” This sentiment underlines how pivotal the Canadian striker is for the Stars, not just in terms of performance but also in team morale.
Huitema, who joined the Stars through a significant trade prior to the start of the 2026 season, has made an immediate impact in her new surroundings. The Stars sent $200,000 in allocation money along with a $300,000 transfer fee to the Seattle club to secure her services. She signed a contract that extends through 2028, and has already notched her first goal for the Stars on March 22, 2026, with a total of four goals in 12 appearances this season.
