In what is set to be her final season, Seattle Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock made a significant impact on Friday night, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory against Boston Legacy. This impressive performance brought her all-time regular season goal tally to 52, surpassing the previous franchise record of 51 held by Reign legend Megan Rapinoe.

After the match, Fishlock humorously remarked that she couldn’t wait to inform Rapinoe about breaking her record, but she emphasized her focus on the team’s success rather than individual statistics. “It’s about the team and what we achieved today,” Fishlock noted, highlighting her commitment to collective success.

Fishlock credited her teammates for their crucial roles in her performance. “I trust my capabilities, but it’s a team effort. Mia [Fishel] drew the defenders away, giving me the space to take my first shot. And Maddie Dahlien executed a perfect pass for the second,” she explained, underscoring the collaborative nature of football.

Both of Fishlock’s goals came from outside the penalty area, a distance she hadn’t scored from since October 10, 2021—the same year she was crowned NWSL MVP. The last time she managed a brace was on April 22, 2023, during Rapinoe’s farewell season, which ended with a push toward the NWSL Championship.

Following her second goal, Fishlock exited the match, with her first goal serving as the decisive strike in this crucial shutout win for Seattle. After enduring two consecutive road losses that had cost them their playoff position, this victory pushed the Reign back into sixth place in the standings with 40 points. However, three teams—Angel City, North Carolina Courage, and Kansas City Current—could potentially overtake them depending on their performances this weekend.

“We were disappointed with our last week’s results, and this was a chance to bounce back,” Fishlock said. “Yes, achieving a personal record is thrilling, but securing three points is what really matters.” Her focus on the team’s performance echoed throughout her comments.

With this victory, Seattle made NWSL history by becoming the first team to win five consecutive regular season home matches without conceding a goal. Additionally, they extended their unbeaten home streak to seven matches and extended their club-record scoring streak to 17 consecutive matches, dating back to May 22 against Boston Legacy FC.
