The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is gearing up for an exciting 15th season, as unveiled in a recent announcement concerning the 2027 schedule.
In a significant shift, the NWSL will kick off its regular season earlier than usual, starting on February 11, 2027, in Los Angeles, California. This strategic timing is designed to align with Super Bowl weekend, aiming to enhance the league’s visibility during one of the most prominent events on the American sports calendar.
Preceding the league’s kickoff, the NWSL Challenge Cup will take center stage, featuring a match between the 2026 NWSL Shield winner and the champion of the 2026 NWSL Championship. The venue for this crucial match is yet to be determined. If a single club secures both titles, the Challenge Cup will feature a rematch of the prior season’s championship showdown.
Continuing the trend from this season, each NWSL club will partake in a 30-match regular-season schedule, facing every opponent both at home and away. Notably, the league will pause during the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Brazil, to ensure players can represent their national teams without conflicting commitments. Additionally, there will be a designated week off from June 7-13, agreed upon by the NWSL and the NWSL Players Association.
The NWSL has emphasized the importance of balancing international fixtures with the domestic calendar, stating, “The schedule footprint has been formatted to avoid staging contests during FIFA windows, reducing conflicts with international duty and allowing clubs to compete with their full rosters.” This effort aims to support player well-being and facilitate the league’s continued growth.
Decision Day for the regular season is set for October 31, 2027, marking the end of the regular season. This will be followed by the first round of the NWSL Playoffs, which will occur from November 5-7, with the semifinals slated for November 13-14.
As for the NWSL Championship next year, the venue remains to be confirmed, but the final is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 20, promising an exhilarating conclusion to the league’s season.
