France Secures Knockout Stage Spot with Dominant Win Over Iraq
France advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup following a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Iraq on Monday night. Kylian Mbappé was the star of the show, scoring two goals, while Ousmane Dembélé also added to the tally in Philadelphia. The match experienced a delay of nearly two hours at halftime due to severe weather conditions in the area.
Looking ahead, France’s final group stage match will feature a clash against Norway, who have also achieved victory in their first two matches and secured their place in the last 32.
Meanwhile, reports from French media suggest that a player from Didier Deschamps’ squad may have their eyes set on a high-profile move to the Premier League.
According to Le10Sport, as cited by TEAMtalk, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is contemplating a transfer to Liverpool this summer. The Reds reportedly expressed interest in Barcola last year after their Premier League triumph.
Although Liverpool’s initial efforts to land the 23-year-old were unsuccessful, they proceeded to invest over £400 million on players including Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz. Now, the Merseyside club is believed to have renewed their interest in Barcola, who switched to PSG from Lyon in 2023.
Since joining the Parisian club, Barcola has made an impressive impact, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists in 152 appearances. His contributions have helped PSG secure 12 trophies, including three Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League titles.
Barcola is reportedly intrigued by the idea of joining Liverpool and experiencing Premier League football. However, it remains uncertain whether an agreement can be reached between the two clubs. The winger is under contract with PSG until the end of the 2027/28 season. Despite his success, he only started 21 of the 34 matches in Ligue 1 last season, indicating his desire to explore options outside the French capital.
