Arsenal to Face Girona and Real Betis in Pre-Season Matches
Arsenal will gear up for the new season by facing Spanish clubs Girona and Real Betis as part of their pre-season preparations.
After clinching the Premier League title last season, the Gunners are eager to uphold their championship status. Mikel Arteta’s side, who finished second in the league three consecutive times prior to their triumph, will kick off their title defense with a home match against Coventry City, the recently crowned Championship winners.
Beyond on-pitch activities, Arsenal seems set to strengthen their squad with a move for a promising defender who previously shone in English football. According to reports from CaughtOffside, the club is contemplating a bid for RB Leipzig full-back Lutsharel Geertruida as they seek to reinforce their defensive lineup.
During the last campaign, Geertruida enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sunderland, making 30 appearances and helping the club secure Europa League qualification under coach Regis Le Bris.
Arsenal is actively searching for a new right-back, and the 25-year-old Geertruida has caught the attention of the club’s scouts thanks to his impressive versatility. His experience—almost 200 top-flight appearances across England, Germany, and the Netherlands—further elevates his candidacy.
Although Geertruida’s contract with Leipzig runs until the end of the 2028/29 season, rumors suggest he may be on the move this summer. Additionally, Liverpool has expressed interest in the player, but as of now, neither Premier League club has submitted an official offer.
