Liverpool to Face Como in Final Pre-Season Friendly

Liverpool will take on Italian side Como this Sunday in their last pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign. Under the management of Andoni Iraola, the Reds started their summer preparations positively, securing wins against Premier League rivals Sunderland and Championship side Wrexham. However, defensive lapses have emerged, resulting in back-to-back losses to Leeds United and Monaco after surrendering two-goal leads.

With the Premier League season fast approaching, Iraola is eager to rectify these defensive issues before kicking off their campaign against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on August 23.

As Liverpool gears up for Sunday’s match, transfer rumors continue to swirl. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the club is actively discussing a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. The young talent caught the eye at the recent World Cup, and Liverpool is keen to bolster their attacking options.

While reaching an agreement on personal terms is expected to be straightforward, Romano indicates that negotiations between Liverpool and PSG for Barcola’s transfer have yet to yield a resolution. The 23-year-old forward has enjoyed a prolific stint at PSG, contributing 39 goals and 37 assists across 152 matches since arriving from Lyon three years ago.

Last season, Barcola netted 11 goals in 29 appearances in Ligue 1, reinforcing his status as a player of interest for Liverpool as they look to enhance their squad ahead of the Premier League season.

Furthermore, Romano suggests the possibility of Liverpool pursuing two additional wingers before the transfer window closes, contingent upon the future of Cody Gakpo, who is reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

In contrast, promising young player Rio Ngumoha is expected to remain an integral part of Iraola’s squad for the upcoming season, as Liverpool aims to solidify their roster. Barcola’s contract with PSG runs until June 2028, adding another layer of complexity to any potential transfer negotiations.
