England’s Thomas Tuchel Looks for Improvement Ahead of Panama Showdown
England manager Thomas Tuchel will be seeking significant improvements from his squad as they prepare to face Panama in their final group stage match of the World Cup on Saturday evening. The Three Lions showcased their potential by defeating Croatia 4-2 in their opening fixture, but stumbled to a disappointing goalless draw against Ghana in their most recent encounter.
Despite the lackluster performance against Ghana, Tuchel’s side still sits atop Group I. However, they face the risk of being overtaken by Ghana if they fail to secure a victory against Panama in their upcoming clash in New York.
In the build-up to the match, news has emerged regarding a possible major transfer involving one of Tuchel’s players. Reports indicate that Manchester City is finalizing a substantial deal valued at around £116 million for midfielder Elliot Anderson, currently playing at Nottingham Forest.
BBC Sport has reported that Manchester City is adamant about the £116 million fee, which would mark a record signing for the club. Yet, other sources claim that the actual value of the deal could reach a staggering £130 million, setting a British transfer record.
For context, the existing British record stands at £125 million, a sum Liverpool paid to secure forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United last summer. Anderson, 23, made the switch to Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for approximately £35 million. Since then, he has made 68 appearances for Forest, scoring four goals in all competitions.
The midfielder’s impressive performances at The City Ground earned him his senior international debut for England last September, and he has since been included in Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in North America.
According to sources, Anderson is expected to undergo a medical with Manchester City soon, paving the way for his move to The Etihad Stadium as the Citizens gear up for the 2023-24 season. Despite having a contract with Nottingham Forest that runs until the summer of 2029, it now seems almost inevitable that Anderson will be donning City colors this summer.
